Territory Business Lockdown Payment Program

The Territory Business Lockdown Payment has been established to provide immediate financial support to businesses during a lockdown period.

This payment is an amount of $1,000 and those eligible will need to submit a simple online application.

A once-off extended closure payment of $1,000 will be made available to eligible businesses that were ordered to shut or stay shut by the chief health officer (CHO) under CHO Directions No. 32 of 2021, such as gyms, indoor or outdoor markets and indoor public swimming pools. Who can apply

In order to participate in the program a business must meet the definition of an eligible business. An eligible business may only apply once for a grant regardless of the number of premises from which it operates.

An eligible business:

  • is a Territory enterprise
  • holds a valid Australian Business Number as at the date of announcement of the lockdown
  • was providing goods and / or services to the public wholly or substantially in the Northern Territory (NT) as at the date of announcement of the lockdown
  • is actively trading with an annual turnover of at least $75,000 and less than $10 million
  • has fewer than 20 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • has had to temporarily cease or significantly reduce trading (ie, a drop of 50% or more in turnover) as a direct result of the lockdown
  • sole traders that meet the criteria
  • not-for-profits incorporated under NT or Commonwealth legislation and is in compliance with all statutory obligations
  • other local businesses and governments.

Who can't apply

Workers employed by a business or employer are not eligible to participate in the program.

To be eligible to apply the applicant must have a valid legal entity and meet the requirements of an eligible business.

Additional information regarding the extended closure payment announced on 8 July 2021

To apply for the extended closure grant of $1,000, you must have first applied and been approved for the lockdown payment. If you haven't applied for the lockdown payment yet, please follow steps 1 and 2 above to submit your application.

If you have already been approved for a lockdown payment grant of $1,000 and you qualify for the extended closure payment, you will receive a communication from the department with the simple steps you need to follow to apply for the extended closure grant.

Application process

Assessment of applications commenced on Monday 28 June 2021.

The Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade have mobilised a team to assess applications. All Territory Business Lockdown Payment Program applications will be prioritised before other grant programs.

The team is working through applications as fast as possible, ensuring that all applications are assessed with the appropriate due diligence and in the order of date and time received.

After you apply

Once your application has been assessed, you will be notified of the outcome. If found eligible, the sum of $1,000 will be paid into your nominated bank account within three to five business days of approval.

A once-off extended closure payment of $1,000 will be made available to eligible businesses that were ordered to shut or stay shut by the CHO.

The Territory Business Lockdown Payment is the result of a decision by the NT Government to provide one-off funding to assist eligible Territory businesses. The program will start as from the issue of a direction by the chief health officer for the NT that a lockdown is in place.
