COVID-19 Lockdown Payment Program

The COVID-19 Lockdown Payment Program is designed to respond to the current and, future situations in which businesses are forced to close due to COVID-19 public health orders.

Lockdown for 3 to 7 days

The current $1,000 Territory Business Lockdown Boosted Payment will continue to apply for business closures that are greater than two days.

Lockdown for 8 to 14 days (and each week after)

An additional Small Business Payment is available for businesses that are unable to operate due to the Chief Health Officer directions for a period beyond seven days. Businesses in lockdown zones that have already applied and are eligible, will be automatically eligible for the additional Small Business Payments.

The Small Business Payments will take into account business turnover.

Territory businesses that have been approved for the Lockdown payment (round 4) will be automatically assessed for the additional Small Business Payment.

Who can apply

An eligible business must be all of the following:

  • is actively trading with an annual turnover of at least $75,000 and less than $10 million
  • has fewer than 20 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • has temporarily ceases, suspended or reduced trading as a result of the lockdown (i.e. suffers of drop of 50% or more in turnover).

Who can't apply

Workers employed by a business or employer are not eligible to participate in the program.

To be eligible to apply the applicant must have a valid legal entity and meet the requirements of an eligible business.

To apply for the COVID-19 Lockdown Payment Program follow these steps.

Step 1. Check your eligibility - read the current terms and conditions.

Step 2. Apply online, and upload the required supporting documentation on the Smartygrants website.

Application process

The Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade will be working through applications as fast as possible, ensuring that all applications are assessed with the appropriate due diligence and in the order of date and time received.

After you apply

Once your application has been assessed, you will be notified of the outcome. If found eligible, the sum of $1,000 will be paid within three to five business days of approval. Please note: if you do not have a Northern Territory Government vendor ID you will be required to obtain one. To find out how to register your business, go to InvoiceNTG.

COVID-19 vaccination requirements

From 25 December 2021, vaccination requirements will apply to all:

  • NT Government contractors
  • grant recipients.

For all Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade grants, an extra declaration will be added to the terms and conditions.

Applicants must confirm they are meeting the directions of the policy. The department may ask for proof to check compliance.
